Josh and the Block Party
Yesterday we attended our first of the "annual block party". There was a firetruck to see and lots of kids running around playing. Oh, and lots of fun food that Josh doesn't usually get to eat. Thinks like chocolate caramels and snack mixes and lots and lots of cookies. Later in the evening there was a talent show put on by the kids. We didn't think Josh would do anything, but he enjoyed watching and clapping when each act was finished. But, Josh was inspired by our neighbor, a 3 year old girl who loves the spotlight. She sang the "ABCs" and so Josh had to do it too.
I wish I had my camera. When it was his turn, Josh ran up to the microphone and sang (yelled) the ABC song with a big smile on his face. It got even bigger when the crowd gave him a rousing applause. Then, with a huge smile on his face he ran back to daddy but accidentally headed in the wrong direction. We were so surprised and proud that Josh was willing to get up and do that in front of a crowd. Oh, where oh where was my camera when I needed it!!!

2 weeks
Daniel is now two weeks old. He's doing great, except for one thing. And, actually, it doesn't bother Daniel at all, just mom! His day and nights are still completely messed up. During the day he'll sleep for 2-3 hour stretches, and at night, it is usually just one hour stretches.
Exhausting!

10 days
Well, Daniel has been with us for 10 days so far. We seem to be getting by. Although, I thought I'd be a little better at reading the baby signals the second time around, but maybe not. At least I feel a little more calm about everything in general.
Daniel still mostly sleeps a lot, except between 12am and 4am. For some reason during these hours, he just wants to be up and nursing or is just not happy. If only we could switch that around to some period during the day. I guess for now it is try as hard as possible to sleep when the baby sleeps. But, what about the other child?
Last night our AC was out and it was hot, hot, hot. Miserable would be the appropriate description. Daniel didn't stop crying until around 3:30. Finally, we all fell asleep. Scott on the couch. Me on 1/3rd of the bed, Daniel on 2/3rds of the bed. Then the most amazing thing happened. The whole family, Josh included, slept till 9am. A miracle.
Josh is doing... okay with Daniel. He mostly wants Daniel to be in the "ignorable state", where Daniel is in his "little chair" in the corner and then Mommy, Daddy and Josh can continue playing as before. Today Daniel was crying and I had to leave the room for some reason. As I was coming back I heard Josh say to Daniel "Mommy will pick you up". Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
I had my first good test of 2 on 1 yesterday. Josh got a bloody nose (3rd one in 2 days) and I was trying to take care of it. It is not easy to get an almost 3 year old to sit still long enough to hold their nose for the bleeding to stop. While doing this Daniel was sitting in his chair screaming. A preview of days to come, I guess.
All in all, I guess we are adjusting, one day at a time. For now, I can't believe how big Josh looks and how small Daniel looks.
